Over thirty years ago, three men, Philip Smith, Jr., Dr. Dan J. Hoerster, and Henry Buttery, saw the need to have a foundation that supported the local hospital. As anyone who has grown up in a rural area knows, you must have local support for local vendors. A hospital is no exception, especially when you throw in a pandemic or historic ice storm. Founded in 1991, the Llano County Memorial Hospital Foundation was organized as a tax-exempt supporting organization for the benefit of the Llano Memorial Hospital. Through different names and operators, the Foundation still stands, strong as ever, but under the name Llano Hospital Foundation. The hospital it supports is called Mid Coast Medical Center – Central. Its mission is to provide a strong network of ambassadors throughout the community to educate, inspire and encourage support so that the citizens of Llano, Mason, San Saba, and surrounding counties can rely on a strong and comforting hospital. We encourage anyone who feels as strongly as we do about having top-quality healthcare resources in a rural area to donate, volunteer and be involved.
